Print & Digital

This station lab gives middle school students a hands-on, student-led way to explore the concept of density of regular-shaped objects. Students will calculate density and use that information to help identify an unknown substance. The modular format keeps learners engaged and allows teachers to facilitate learning rather than direct every step.

The lab is designed to save prep time and is ready for use in both traditional and digital classrooms.

Standards & Format

  • Aligned with 2017 TEKS (not updated for 2021 standards)

  • Works in-person or virtually

  • All files are provided in PowerPoint and Google Slides formats for flexibility

  • Includes station signage, task cards, readings, and resources to support independent or small-group work

Differentiation & Structure

Each lab features eight core stations plus a ninth challenge station for enrichment. Activities are designed to meet the needs of a range of learners. Spanish translations are included for select materials.

Teachers can expect students to take ownership of their learning, while still having clear structures in place to ensure accountability and understanding.

Station Breakdown

Input Stations (building understanding):

  • Explore It! – Hands-on demonstration to connect concepts through application (digital version uses drag-and-drop images and text)

  • Read It! – Short informational text with comprehension questions; differentiated passages available in English and Spanish

  • Research It! – Online activity with guided tasks and lab sheet responses

  • Watch It! – Short video with accompanying questions

Output Stations (demonstrating knowledge):

  • Organize It! – Sorting and categorization activities (print and digital formats)

  • Illustrate It! – Drawing/sketching tasks to model and reinforce the density concept

  • Write It! – Short-answer writing prompts requiring complete-sentence responses

  • Assess It! – Task cards and vocabulary-in-context activities to measure mastery

Bonus Station – Challenge It!

  • Enrichment opportunities for early finishers, including puzzles, games, and mini-projects

Teacher Advantages

  • Minimal prep – most stations rely on standard classroom supplies; digital options reduce setup

  • Differentiated by design – scaffolded readings and tasks provide support for struggling learners, while the challenge station extends learning for advanced students

  • Flexible implementation – can be completed in one class period, spread across multiple days, or used in hybrid/virtual formats

  • Student-led – encourages independence, critical thinking, and engagement

This is a finished product; it will be updated with formatting or corrections as needed. Future improvements and new features will be sold as a separate product.
