Print & Digital

Keep your middle school students engaged, curious, and learning with this modular, student-led station lab on the periodic table and reactions, aligned with TEKS 2021 standard 8.6B.
This ready-to-use resource saves you hours of prep time while allowing students to take ownership of their learning through interactive, hands-on, and digital exploration.

In this station lab, students will use the periodic table to identify the atoms involved in chemical reactions, making connections between atomic structure, element properties, and chemical behavior.
Perfect for in-class or virtual learning, this differentiated resource fits seamlessly into your middle school chemistry curriculum.

Differentiated, Modular, and Student-Led

Each station lab includes nine differentiated activities designed to create a personalized learning experience for every student.
In this student-centered approach, the teacher acts as a facilitator, guiding inquiry and critical thinking while students work independently or in small groups.

The nine modular stations include all signage, readings, task cards, and resources needed for implementation.
The Explore It! station may require a few common classroom materials you likely already have available in your lab.

Ready for In-Class or Virtual Learning

This lab is designed for maximum flexibility—students can complete the activities on campus or online.
All digital materials are fully compatible with PowerPoint and Google Slides, making it easy to assign, monitor, and review student work in any format.

The Stations

Input Stations – Learn and Explore

Students encounter new concepts about the periodic table and reactions through multimodal learning experiences.

  • Explore It! – A hands-on demo or activity that connects new information through real-world application. In the digital version, students manipulate images and text in PowerPoint or Google Slides.

  • Watch It! – A short, engaging video with guided questions about how elements interact and react.

  • Read It! – A short, accessible reading passage with comprehension and vocabulary questions. Differentiated passages in English and Spanish support diverse learners.

  • Research It! – Guided online exploration using visuals, data, and graphs to help students connect element properties to their roles in chemical reactions.

Output Stations – Apply and Demonstrate Understanding

Students demonstrate mastery through creative, hands-on, and analytical activities that reinforce learning.

  • Organize It! – Sort and classify elements or reactions using printable manipulatives or digital tools.

  • Illustrate It! – Sketch or model atomic structures and reactions to visually represent concepts.

  • Write It! – Respond to open-ended prompts using academic vocabulary and evidence-based explanations.

  • Assess It! – Apply learning through task cards and written responses that reinforce key vocabulary and concepts.

Bonus Station – Challenge It!

Perfect for early finishers and advanced learners, this enrichment station includes crossword puzzles, mini-projects, and games to extend learning and encourage deeper exploration of the periodic table and chemical reactions.
