Geologic Time Scale of Earth - Student Choice Projects - MS

This project-based lesson gives middle school students the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the geologic time scale through student-directed projects. A choice board provides six project options along with a “design your own” pathway, allowing students to choose the format that best matches their strengths and interests.

An editable grading rubric is included and can be applied by teachers, peers, or students for self-assessment. The rubric is flexible and can be customized to align with classroom or district expectations.

Differentiation

Two versions of the project page are provided:

This flexible structure allows the resource to meet a variety of student needs.

Supplies Needed

Projects are designed for completion with common classroom materials such as paper, markers, and scissors. Many can also be completed digitally, and optional craft supplies may be used for model-building or other hands-on activities.
