Density of a Regular-Shaped Object - Student Choice Projects - MS

This project-based lesson provides middle school students with multiple ways to demonstrate their understanding of the density of regular-shaped objects. The activity emphasizes student choice and ownership, allowing learners to select the project format that best matches their strengths, or even design their own.

A structured grading rubric is included and can be used for teacher assessment, peer review, or student self-assessment.

Structure & Flexibility

• Choice Board: Six project options plus a “design your own” project

• Teacher Support: A directions page with guidance and suggestions

• Editable Rubric: Assesses vocabulary, concepts, presentation, clarity, and accuracy; can be modified to suit individual grading needs

• Multimodal Approach: Students can show understanding through writing, visual work, models, presentations, or digital formats

Differentiation

Two versions of the project choice board are provided:

• Modified Version: Three of the options are adapted to support students who need additional scaffolding or remediation

• Extension Opportunities: Teachers can assign multiple projects for advanced learners while maintaining consistent grading with the same rubric

Supplies

Most projects are designed to be completed using common classroom materials such as paper, markers, and scissors. Many options can also be completed digitally. Optional craft supplies may enhance certain projects, especially model-building tasks.
