Print & Digital

This project-based lesson helps middle school students explore energy transformations while meeting the requirements of TEKS standards. Using a choice board, students select from six structured project options or create their own through a “design your own” pathway. This flexibility allows students to demonstrate their knowledge in ways that best fit their strengths and learning styles.

An editable grading rubric is included and may be used for teacher grading, peer review, or self-assessment. The rubric can be modified to meet classroom or district expectations, ensuring consistency while still allowing for flexibility.

What’s Included

  • Choice Board: Nine project options, including a “design your own” project

  • Teacher Directions Page: Guidance, support, and suggestions for implementation

  • Editable Rubrics: Assess vocabulary, concepts, clarity, presentation, and accuracy

Differentiation

Two versions of the project page are included to support a variety of learners:

  • Modified Version: Three project options are scaffolded for students needing additional support or remediation

  • Challenge Options: Teachers may assign multiple projects for advanced learners while using the same rubric for evaluation consistency

This design ensures the resource can be adapted for diverse learners in the same classroom.

Supplies Needed

Projects are designed to use standard classroom materials such as paper, markers, and scissors. Many projects can also be completed digitally, and optional craft supplies may be used for model-building or other creative tasks.
