This project-based lesson gives middle school students the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of electric and magnetic forces through student-directed projects. A choice board outlines six structured project options plus a “design your own” pathway, empowering students to select the format that best fits their skills and learning preferences.

An editable grading rubric is included and may be used for teacher evaluation, peer feedback, or self-assessment. The rubric is fully customizable so teachers can adapt it to their grading style or district requirements.

What’s Included

  • Choice Board: Nine student project options, including a “design your own” choice

  • Teacher Directions Page: Guidance, ideas, and suggestions for implementation

  • Editable Rubrics: Evaluate vocabulary, concepts, clarity, presentation, and accuracy

Differentiation

Two versions of the project page are provided:

  • Modified Version: Three project options are scaffolded to provide extra support for students who need remediation

  • Challenge Options: Teachers can assign multiple projects for advanced learners while still using the same rubric for consistency

This flexible design makes it easy to adapt the projects for learners of varying abilities within the same classroom.

Supplies Needed

Projects are designed to use basic classroom materials such as paper, markers, and scissors. Many options may also be completed digitally, while optional craft supplies can be added for hands-on projects such as building models.
