Integumentary System Functions Station Lab New TEKS 7.13A

This student-led, modular station lab supports the 2021 TEKS 7.13A standard by engaging middle school students in identifying and modeling the main functions of the integumentary system. Students rotate through multimodal stations that include reading, research, video, and hands-on demonstrations, making learning interactive, differentiated, and student-centered. Teachers act as facilitators, ensuring students take ownership of their learning while reducing prep time.

Structure & Differentiation

• Nine total stations: eight differentiated activities plus one enrichment station for early finishers

• Differentiated to meet diverse student needs—scaffolded readings and tasks for remediation and challenge activities for advanced learners

• Includes station signage, task cards, readings, and resources for independent or group work

• The Explore It! station may require a few basic classroom materials you already have

Station Breakdown

Input Stations (building knowledge):

• Explore It! – Hands-on demonstration; digital version includes interactive activities in PowerPoint or Google Slides

• Watch It! – Short video with comprehension prompts

• Read It! – Differentiated passages (English & Spanish) with vocabulary and comprehension checks

• Research It! – Facts, images, and graphs paired with structured student questions

Output Stations (demonstrating knowledge):

• Organize It! – Sorting/categorization with manipulatives or digital tools

• Illustrate It! – Sketching/drawing integumentary system structures and functions to reinforce understanding

• Write It! – Short-answer prompts requiring complete sentences

• Assess It! – Task cards and vocabulary-in-context exercises to demonstrate mastery

Bonus Station:

• Challenge It! – Crosswords, puzzles, games, and mini-projects for enrichment or early finishers

Flexible Implementation

This lab is fully adaptable for in-class and virtual learning. All files are compatible with PowerPoint and Google Slides, making them easy to use in blended or online classrooms.
