Immune System Functions Station Lab - New TEKS 7.13A

This student-led, modular station lab helps middle school students meet the 2021 TEKS 7.13A standard by exploring the main functions of the immune system. Students rotate through multimodal stations that include reading, video, research, and hands-on activities to identify and model how the immune system defends the body. Teachers facilitate rather than direct, creating an engaging and personalized learning environment while reducing prep time.

Structure & Differentiation

• Nine stations total: eight differentiated activities plus one enrichment station for early finishers

• Differentiated to support diverse learning needs—scaffolded tasks for remediation and advanced challenges for enrichment

• Includes station signage, task cards, readings, and resources for easy classroom setup

• The Explore It! station may require a few simple classroom materials you already have on hand

Station Breakdown

Input Stations (building knowledge):

• Explore It! – Hands-on demonstration; digital version allows interactive elements in PowerPoint or Google Slides

• Watch It! – Short video with comprehension prompts

• Read It! – Differentiated passages (English & Spanish) with vocabulary and comprehension checks

• Research It! – Facts, images, and graphs paired with structured student questions

Output Stations (demonstrating knowledge):

• Organize It! – Sorting and categorization activities with manipulatives or digital tools

• Illustrate It! – Sketching/drawing models of the immune system to reinforce retention

• Write It! – Short-answer prompts requiring complete sentences

• Assess It! – Task cards and vocabulary-in-context questions to demonstrate mastery

Bonus Station:

• Challenge It! – Crosswords, puzzles, games, and mini-projects for early finishers or advanced learners

Flexible Implementation

This lab is fully adaptable for in-class and virtual learning. All files are compatible with PowerPoint and Google Slides, making them simple to use in blended or online classrooms.
