Print & Digital

This project-based lesson allows middle school students to demonstrate their understanding of the digestive system through student-directed projects. A choice board presents six structured project options plus a “design your own” pathway, giving students the flexibility to showcase their knowledge in a way that best fits their strengths, interests, and creativity.

An editable grading rubric is included, which can be used for teacher assessment, peer feedback, or student self-assessment. The rubric is also fully customizable, allowing teachers to adapt it to their classroom or district grading needs.

What’s Included

  • Choice Board: Nine project options, including a “design your own” project

  • Teacher Directions Page: Guidance, implementation tips, and suggestions for support

  • Editable Rubrics: Assess vocabulary, concepts, presentation, clarity, and accuracy

Differentiation

Two versions of the project page are provided to meet diverse learning needs:

  • Modified Version: Three scaffolded project options designed to support students who need remediation

  • Challenge Opportunities: Advanced learners may be assigned multiple projects and evaluated with the same rubric for consistency

This ensures the activity can be easily adapted for all learners in the classroom.

Supplies Needed

Projects are designed for use with basic classroom supplies such as paper, markers, and scissors. Many options can also be completed digitally, while optional craft supplies may be used for hands-on model-building or creative extensions.
