Print & Digital

This project-based lesson helps middle school students explore and demonstrate their understanding of cell theory while meeting the needs of the 2017 TEKS standard. A choice board provides six structured project options plus a “design your own” pathway, giving students the flexibility to show what they know in a format that best matches their creativity, learning style, and strengths.

An editable grading rubric is included and may be used by teachers, peers, or students for self-assessment. The rubric is also customizable, so teachers can adapt it to fit their classroom grading practices.

What’s Included

  • Choice Board: Nine project options, including a “design your own” project

  • Teacher Directions Page: Tips and guidance for implementation

  • Editable Rubrics: Assess vocabulary, concepts, clarity, presentation, and accuracy

Differentiation

Two versions of the project page are provided to support diverse learning needs:

  • Modified Version: Three scaffolded project options designed for students needing remediation or additional support

  • Challenge Opportunities: Teachers can assign multiple projects to advanced learners while still using the same rubric for consistency

This flexible design ensures that all students can engage meaningfully with the material at their level.

Supplies Needed

Projects are designed to use basic classroom supplies such as paper, markers, and scissors. Many projects can also be completed digitally, while optional craft supplies may be used for model-building or creative extensions.
