Human Activity & Water Station Lab - New TEKS 7.11A
This modular, student-led activity keeps middle schoolers engaged and learning as they explore how human activity impacts groundwater and surface water within a watershed. These comprehensive, ready-to-use materials save you hours of prep while empowering students to take ownership of their learning.
In this interactive station lab, students will analyze the beneficial and harmful influences of human activity on Earth’s water systems. Perfect for both in-class and virtual learning, this activity supports inquiry, collaboration, and critical thinking.
DIFFERENTIATED • MODULAR • STUDENT-LED
Each lab features nine differentiated stations that promote personalized learning for every student. In this student-centered model, teachers guide and facilitate while students work independently or collaboratively.
All signage, task cards, readings, and resources are included. The Explore It! station may require simple classroom materials you likely already have on hand.
THE STATIONS
INPUT Stations – Build Understanding
Students explore new concepts about human impact on water systems through multimodal learning opportunities:
-
Explore It! – Hands-on activity or demonstration connects learning through real-world application. In the digital version, students manipulate images and text in PowerPoint or Google Slides.
-
Watch It! – Students view a short, engaging video and answer guided questions about human activity and water quality.
-
Read It! – Students read a differentiated passage (available in English and Spanish) with built-in vocabulary and comprehension questions.
-
Research It! – Students examine graphs, images, and data to investigate how pollution, runoff, and conservation affect water systems.
OUTPUT Stations – Demonstrate Understanding
Students show their learning through hands-on and creative tasks:
-
Organize It! – Students complete card sorts or digital categorization activities to reinforce key concepts.
-
Illustrate It! – Students create models or diagrams that explain the effects of human activity on groundwater and surface water.
-
Write It! – Students respond to open-ended prompts, using complete sentences to explain what they’ve learned.
-
Assess It! – Students demonstrate mastery through task cards and vocabulary-in-context exercises.
