Love to “wow” your students with a phenomenon AND get them learning the science behind it? Check out these worksheets that complement Steve Spangler's hugely popular "Sick Science" YouTube series. Starting with an entertaining video, the worksheet packs inquiry, reading comprehension, creative and experimental design, and CER practice into a middle school lesson.

What's included?

The designed-for-print worksheet that accompanies the Spangler S!CK Science video is available as both a PDF and an editable PowerPoint file, which has been tested for compatibility with Google Slides.

Watch - Read - Write - Design - Reflect - Respond to Evidence

  • Students watch a video demonstration of a mysterious science phenomenon or trick in action. The worksheet is structured so they can pick up the inquiry from there: "How did he DO that?"
  • Students will recall and collect basic information about the events in the video, then read a short, easy-to-understand description of the science concepts shown.
  • Next, students will answer comprehension questions to prepare them to engage creatively with science as they design their own experiment or prototype.
  • Lastly, students will summarize their learning by completing a CER to justify a claim related to the main science theme of the video.

Spangler videos offer an engaging perspective on the science, and the accompanying worksheets reinforce the learning.

This is a finished product; it will be updated with corrections as needed. Future editions will be sold separately.
