Keep your middle school students engaged, curious, and learning with this modular, student-led station lab on evidence of chemical changes, aligned with TEKS 2021 standard 6.6E.
This ready-to-use, low-prep resource saves you valuable time while empowering students to take ownership of their learning through exploration, critical thinking, and hands-on investigation.

In this station lab, students will identify the formation of a new substance by observing the evidence of a possible chemical change, including production of a gas, color change, production of a precipitate, and changes in thermal energy.
Perfect for in-class or virtual learning, this differentiated activity helps students connect abstract chemistry concepts to real-world phenomena.

Differentiated, Modular, and Student-Led

Each station lab includes nine differentiated activities that guide students through a personalized learning experience.
In this student-centered approach, teachers act as facilitators, encouraging inquiry and exploration while students work independently or in small groups.

The nine modular stations include all signage, readings, resources, and task cards for a seamless classroom setup.
The Explore It! station may require a few common materials you likely already have in your lab.

Ready for In-Class or Virtual Learning

This lab is designed for maximum flexibility—ideal for both classroom and online environments.
All digital materials are fully compatible with PowerPoint and Google Slides, making it easy to assign, present, and manage in any setting.

  • Read It! – Concise reading passage with vocabulary and comprehension questions. Differentiated texts in English and Spanish are included for multiple reading levels.

  • Research It! – Guided web-based investigation using visuals, data, and analysis questions to deepen understanding.

Output Stations – Apply and Demonstrate Understanding

Students show what they’ve learned through creative and analytical activities that strengthen comprehension and retention.

  • Organize It! – Use manipulatives or digital drag-and-drop tools to classify and compare examples of physical and chemical changes.

  • Illustrate It! – Draw or model evidence of chemical changes to make learning visual and memorable.

  • Write It! – Respond to short-answer prompts using key scientific vocabulary and complete sentences.

  • Assess It! – Apply learning through task cards and short written responses demonstrating mastery of core vocabulary and concepts.
