This project-based lesson gives middle school students the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the skeletal system through student-directed projects. A choice board outlines six structured project options plus a “design your own” pathway, allowing students to showcase their learning in a way that best fits their strengths, interests, and creativity.

An editable grading rubric is included and can be used for teacher assessment, peer review, or self-assessment. The rubric is fully customizable, giving teachers flexibility to align grading with classroom or district expectations.

What’s Included

  • Choice Board: Nine project options, including a “design your own” project

  • Teacher Directions Page: Suggestions and guidance for successful implementation

  • Editable Rubrics: Evaluate vocabulary, concepts, clarity, presentation, and accuracy

Differentiation

Two versions of the project page are provided to meet a variety of student needs:

  • Modified Version: Three scaffolded project options designed to assist students needing remediation or extra support

  • Challenge Opportunities: Advanced learners can be assigned multiple projects and still use the same rubric for consistency

This design ensures the projects can be adapted to support and challenge all learners in the classroom.

Supplies Needed

Projects are designed for use with common classroom supplies such as paper, markers, and scissors. Many projects can also be completed digitally, and optional craft supplies may be added for model-building or other creative extensions.
