Respiratory System Functions Station Lab New TEKS 7.13

This student-led, modular station lab supports the 2021 TEKS 7.13A standard by guiding middle school students to identify and model the main functions of the respiratory system. Through multimodal input and output stations, students explore how the respiratory system brings oxygen into the body, removes carbon dioxide, and works with other systems to sustain life. Teachers facilitate rather than direct, creating a personalized, student-centered experience while reducing prep time.

Structure & Differentiation

• Nine total stations: eight differentiated activities plus one enrichment station for early finishers

• Differentiated to meet diverse learning needs—scaffolded tasks and readings for remediation, enrichment challenges for advanced students

• Includes station signage, task cards, readings, and resources for independent or group learning

• The Explore It! station may require a few simple classroom materials already on hand

Station Breakdown

Input Stations (building knowledge):

• Explore It! – Hands-on demonstration; digital version includes interactive activities in PowerPoint or Google Slides

• Watch It! – Short video with comprehension questions

• Read It! – Differentiated passages (English & Spanish) with vocabulary and comprehension checks

• Research It! – Facts, images, and graphs paired with guided student questions

Output Stations (demonstrating knowledge):

• Organize It! – Categorization and sorting with manipulatives or digital formats

• Illustrate It! – Sketching/drawing respiratory system structures and processes to reinforce learning

• Write It! – Short-answer prompts requiring complete sentences

• Assess It! – Task cards and vocabulary-in-context exercises to check mastery

Bonus Station:

• Challenge It! – Crosswords, puzzles, games, and mini-projects for advanced learners and early finishers

Flexible Implementation

This lab is designed for both in-person and virtual learning. All files are compatible with PowerPoint and Google Slides, making them simple to use in blended or online classrooms.

This is a finished product; it will be updated with corrections as needed. Future improvements and new features will be sold as a separate product.
