Muscular System Functions Station Lab - New TEKS 7.13A

This student-led, modular station lab supports the 2021 TEKS 7.13A standard by guiding middle school students to identify and model the main functions of the muscular system. Students rotate through multimodal input and output stations that combine demonstrations, reading, video, and research with hands-on and creative activities. Teachers act as facilitators rather than directors, giving students ownership of their learning while saving valuable prep time.

Structure & Differentiation

• Nine total stations: eight differentiated activities plus one enrichment station for early finishers

• Differentiated design supports learners at all levels—scaffolded readings and tasks for remediation, enrichment activities for advanced students

• Includes station signage, task cards, readings, and resources for easy setup and classroom independence

• The Explore It! station may require a few simple classroom supplies you already have on hand

Station Breakdown

Input Stations (building knowledge):

• Explore It! – Hands-on demonstration; digital version includes interactive elements in PowerPoint or Google Slides

• Watch It! – Short video with comprehension prompts

• Read It! – Differentiated passages (English & Spanish) with vocabulary and comprehension checks

• Research It! – Facts, images, and graphs paired with guided student tasks

Output Stations (demonstrating knowledge):

• Organize It! – Categorization and sorting activities with manipulatives or digital tools

• Illustrate It! – Drawing/sketching muscular system structures and functions to reinforce learning

• Write It! – Short-answer prompts requiring complete sentences

• Assess It! – Task cards and vocabulary-in-context activities to check mastery

Bonus Station:

• Challenge It! – Puzzles, crosswords, games, and mini-projects for early finishers and advanced learners

Flexible Implementation

This station lab is fully adaptable for in-class or virtual instruction. All files are compatible with PowerPoint and Google Slides, making it easy to implement in blended or online learning environments.
