This project-based lesson gives middle school students the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the muscular system through student-directed projects. A choice board provides six structured project options along with a “design your own” pathway, allowing students to showcase what they’ve learned in a format that best fits their strengths, interests, and creativity.

An editable grading rubric is included and can be used by teachers, peers, or students for self-assessment. The rubric is fully customizable, giving teachers the flexibility to align evaluation with classroom or district requirements.

What’s Included

  • Choice Board: Nine project options, including a “design your own” project

  • Teacher Directions Page: Implementation tips and classroom support

  • Editable Rubrics: Evaluate vocabulary, concepts, presentation, clarity, and accuracy

Differentiation

Two versions of the project page are included to support varied student needs:

  • Modified Version: Three scaffolded project options are tailored for students needing remediation or additional support

  • Challenge Opportunities: Teachers may assign multiple projects to advanced learners while still using the same rubric for consistency

This ensures that all students can be engaged and appropriately challenged within the same classroom.

Supplies Needed

Projects are designed to use basic classroom supplies such as paper, scissors, and markers. Many can also be completed digitally, while optional craft supplies may be used for model-building or other creative extensions.
