This station lab provides middle school students with a structured, student-centered way to explore Continental Drift Theory. Through a series of differentiated, modular stations, students examine how the continents once fit together into a supercontinent and analyze the evidence that supports Alfred Wegener’s theory.

The resource is designed to reduce teacher prep time while creating an engaging and interactive learning experience. Students work independently or in small groups, with the teacher serving as facilitator rather than direct instructor.

Alignment & Format

  • Aligned with 2017 TEKS (not updated for 2021)

  • Suitable for both in-person and virtual learning

  • Digital versions compatible with PowerPoint and Google Slides

  • Materials include signage, task cards, readings, and all needed resources for each station

  • Assess It! – Structured questions and vocabulary in context to measure mastery

Bonus Station:

  • Challenge It! – Extension tasks such as puzzles, games, or mini-projects for advanced learners or early finishers

Teacher Benefits

  • Differentiation built in – activities are scaffolded for struggling readers and extendable for advanced students

  • Minimal prep required – most stations use common classroom supplies (paper, markers, scissors, etc.); some are fully digital

  • Flexible implementation – can be run in one class period, extended across multiple days, or adapted for homework or remote learning

  • Student-led structure – encourages independence, collaboration, and active engagement
