This project-based lesson helps middle school students meet the 2021 TEKS 6.10C standard by exploring the processes within the rock cycle. Using a choice board, students select from six structured project options or design their own, giving them the flexibility to demonstrate understanding in a way that best fits their strengths and creativity.

An editable grading rubric is included, which can be used for teacher grading, peer evaluation, or student self-assessment. The rubric is fully customizable so it can be adapted to classroom or district requirements.

What’s Included

  • Choice Board: Nine student project options, including a “design your own” project

  • Teacher Directions Page: Guidance and support for implementation

  • Editable Rubrics: Assess vocabulary, concepts, presentation, clarity, and accuracy

Differentiation

Two versions of the project page are provided to support a wide range of learners:

  • Modified Version: Three project options are scaffolded to assist students who need remediation or extra support

  • Challenge Options: Teachers can assign multiple projects for advanced learners while still using the same rubric for consistent grading

This flexibility allows teachers to easily adjust the resource to fit different ability levels within one classroom.

Supplies Needed

Projects are designed to be completed using common classroom supplies such as paper, markers, and scissors. Many projects may also be completed digitally, while optional craft supplies can be used to enhance physical models or creative outputs.

This is a finished product; it will be updated with corrections as needed. Future improvements and new features will be sold as a separate product.
