Modeling Layers of the Earth - Student Choice Projects, MS, New TEKS 6.10B

This project-based lesson helps middle school students meet the 2021 TEKS 6.10B standard by demonstrating their understanding of the layers of Earth—the inner core, outer core, mantle, and crust. A choice board outlines six ready-made projects plus a “design your own” option, allowing students to select the format that best matches their learning style and interests.

An editable grading rubric is included, which can be used for teacher assessments, peer evaluations, or student self-assessments. The rubric can be modified to align with specific grading needs or classroom expectations.

Supplies Needed

Projects are designed to be completed with common classroom materials such as paper, markers, and scissors. Many projects can also be completed digitally, and optional craft supplies may be useful for building physical models.
