Managing Energy Resources Station Lab - New TEKS 6.11B

This student-led, modular station lab helps middle school students meet the 2021 TEKS standard 6.11B by exploring how conservation, efficiency, and technology can be used to manage air, water, soil, and energy resources. Students rotate through a series of multimodal stations that combine hands-on tasks, readings, digital tools, and written responses. The format is designed to reduce teacher prep while giving students ownership of their learning.

Structure & Differentiation

• Nine total stations: eight core activities plus one bonus challenge station

• Differentiated to support a wide range of learners, with scaffolds for remediation and extension activities for advanced students

• Includes all signage, task cards, readings, and resources needed for implementation

• The Explore It! station may require a few simple materials often already available in most classrooms

Students may work independently or in small groups, allowing teachers flexibility in classroom management.

Station Breakdown

Input Stations (building knowledge):

• Explore It! – Hands-on demonstration; digital version uses drag-and-drop in PowerPoint or Google Slides

• Watch It! – Short video with guided questions on energy resource management

• Read It! – Differentiated passages (English & Spanish) with comprehension and vocabulary practice

• Research It! – Facts, images, and graphs paired with guided lab sheet tasks

Output Stations (demonstrating knowledge):

• Organize It! – Manipulative or digital categorization tasks

• Illustrate It! – Drawing/sketching activities to model concepts visually

• Write It! – Short-answer prompts requiring complete-sentence responses

• Assess It! – Task cards and vocabulary-in-context questions to demonstrate mastery

Bonus Station:

• Challenge It! – Extension tasks such as crosswords, games, or mini-projects for early finishers or advanced learners

Flexible Implementation

This lab is designed for both in-class and virtual learning. Files are fully compatible with PowerPoint and Google Slides, making it simple to adapt for blended or remote classrooms.
