Energy Transformations in Systems - Student Choice Project, New TEKS 6.8B

This project-based lesson helps middle school students meet the 2021 TEKS 6.8B standard by exploring energy transformations in systems. Students use a choice board to select from six structured project options or design their own project through a “design your own” pathway. This flexibility allows learners to demonstrate understanding in a way that best matches their skills, creativity, and interests.

An editable grading rubric is included and can be used for teacher grading, peer review, or student self-assessment. The rubric can be easily modified to align with classroom or district expectations.

Differentiation

Two versions of the project page are included to support a range of learners:

This design ensures that the activity can be easily adapted for all ability levels in one classroom.

Supplies Needed

Projects are designed for completion with common classroom materials such as paper, markers, and scissors. Many can also be completed digitally, while optional craft supplies may be useful for hands-on projects like models.
