This project-based lesson helps middle school students meet the 2021 TEKS 8.8B standard by exploring electromagnetic waves through student-directed projects. A choice board presents six structured project options plus a “design your own” pathway, giving students the flexibility to select the format that best matches their skills and creativity.

An editable grading rubric is included and may be used for teacher evaluation, peer feedback, or student self-assessment. The rubric is fully customizable, allowing teachers to adapt it to meet classroom or district requirements.

What’s Included

  • Choice Board: Nine project options, including a “design your own” project

  • Teacher Directions Page: Suggestions and support for implementation

  • Editable Rubrics: Assess vocabulary, concepts, presentation, clarity, and accuracy

Differentiation

Two versions of the project page are provided to support a wide range of learners:

  • Modified Version: Three project options are scaffolded to support students who need remediation

  • Extension Opportunities: Teachers can assign multiple projects to advanced students, with the same rubric used for consistent evaluation

This flexible design allows teachers to address the needs of all learners in one classroom.

Supplies Needed

Projects are designed for completion with common classroom materials such as paper, markers, and scissors. Many options can also be completed digitally, while optional craft supplies may be used for hands-on model building.

This is a finished product; it will be updated with corrections as needed. Future improvements and new features will be sold as a separate product.
