Skeletal System Functions Station Lab - New TEKS 7.13A

This student-led, modular station lab helps middle school students meet the 2021 TEKS 7.13A standard by exploring the main functions of the skeletal system. Students will identify how bones provide structure, protection, and support, and they’ll model how the skeletal system works with other systems to maintain health and movement. With multimodal input and output stations, the lab creates an engaging, personalized learning experience while teachers serve as facilitators—making it a low-prep, high-impact lesson.

Structure & Differentiation

• Nine total stations: eight differentiated activities plus one enrichment station for early finishers

• Differentiated to support learners at all levels—scaffolded readings and tasks for remediation, enrichment opportunities for advanced students

• Includes station signage, task cards, readings, and resources to support independent or group learning

• The Explore It! station may require a few classroom materials you likely already have on hand

Station Breakdown

Input Stations (building knowledge):

• Explore It! – Hands-on demonstration; digital version includes interactive activities in PowerPoint or Google Slides

• Watch It! – Short video with comprehension questions

• Read It! – Differentiated passages (English & Spanish) with vocabulary and comprehension checks

• Research It! – Facts, images, and graphs paired with guided student tasks

Output Stations (demonstrating knowledge):

• Organize It! – Sorting/categorization activities with manipulatives or digital formats

• Illustrate It! – Sketching/drawing skeletal system structures to reinforce learning

• Write It! – Short-answer prompts requiring complete sentences

• Assess It! – Task cards and vocabulary-in-context questions to check mastery

Bonus Station:

• Challenge It! – Crosswords, puzzles, games, and mini-projects for enrichment or early finishers

Flexible Implementation

This station lab is fully adaptable for in-class or virtual learning. Files are compatible with PowerPoint and Google Slides, making them simple to use in blended or online environments.
