This Observable Patterns of the Sky Student Choice Projects lesson allows 5th grade students to choose a project that fits their output style. A project page describes six different student-led project options and a “design your own” project. A grading rubric allows for assessments by teachers, peers, or the students themselves. Note: this product is also included in the Observable Patterns of the Sky Complete Lesson - 5th Grade.

 

The Student Choice Projects are flexible and dynamic. Teachers can modify the rubric to suit their grading needs. Multimodal choices provide fifth grade students with creative, personalized methods to show what they know.

DIFFERENTIATED For a Variety of Needs

There are two versions of the project page; in the modified version, three of the project options are targeted to assist students needing remediation or differentiation. For students needing a challenge, teachers can assign a combination of projects and still use the same rubric. 

 

What Supplies Do I Need?

The Student Choice Projects are designed to use the normal classroom supplies teachers and students have available: paper, markers, scissors, etc. Many projects can be completed digitally. Some crafting supplies may be useful for building models.
